It is located about 45 kilometers south-west Alexandria city centre and some seven kilometers from the Mediterranean coast. North of the Borg El Arab city is King Mayriott resort and Mayriott Lake. The city has an airport, Borg El Arab Airport, that serves nearly 250,000 passengers every year. The city also has the biggest stadium in Egypt, Borg El Arab stadium that fits 80,000 people. Borg El Arab City is seen as the natural extension of Alexandria City. President Hosni Mubarak performed the formal inauguration of the city in November 1988.
