Aswan High Dam was an engineering miracle at that time as it is considered one of the biggest Dams in the world; it contains 18 times the material used in the Great Pyramids of Cheops.
Before the Aswan High Dam was built in the sixties, farmers had to contend with the annual inundation (flood), but now the flow of the Nile is carefully controlled. It was completed in 1970 after ten years of work.
