Lush fairways, exotic vegetation, serpentine lakes, waterfalls, ponds and gurgling streams belie the barren desert origin of this enchanting golf course by Swiss architect Peter Harradine, on the eastern outskirts of Cairo. If ever a course could claim to be a Garden of Eden, this must surely be it. There is even a themed water park boasting Cairo’s only beach at the five-star JW Marriott Cairo, which overlooks the first hole.
