Recommended Visit: Al Alamein A Historical Battlefield



El Alamein is most notable as the place where the Allied forces of World War II gained a decisive victory of the Axis forces. Over 80,000 soldiers were either wounded or lost their lives here. As a result, El Alamein is home to war graves war memorials and a museum that are worth a visit. The Al Alamein War Museum is said to be located where the battle took place. It was opened in 1956 and is a complete illustration of the story of World War II in North Africa, containing records of all the events. Even before entering the Museum halls, in the garden are a display of huge army tanks and various other weapons used in the battle. A visitor can view this heavy equipment from the inside. The garden
has about fifteen large pieces used by different forces in the Battle of Al Alamein. Inside the museum there are five halls. Each of them is dedicated to one of the four countries involved in the war, which include Great Britain, Italy, Germany, and Egypt. The museum also has a mixed hall that contains general war items. Another notable monument is the Commonwealth War Graves and Memorial
where there are 7,367 burials in addition to 603 names of men and 11,874 names of soldiers and airmen who have no known grave. The cemetery and the memorial were designed in 1951. Another memorial is the German War Graves shaped as a fortress the 1956’s building houses 4200 graves of German soldiers and few kilometers away you can visit the Italian War Graves with 4300 burials.
