On the edge of the desert you can sail, windsurf, and fish in Lake Qarun. Other places of outstanding natural beauty near Fayoum are the hot springs at Ain al-Silin, hosting a park with fruit gardens (9 kilometres north of the capital, towards Lake Qarun), and the waterfalls at Wadi al-Rayan, 40km towards Bahariyya, are also suitable for swimming and picnics.
